Red Hat introduces virtualisation platform

Open source software mogul Red Hat has released a new server virtualisation platform.

The company said that the new Enterprise Virtualisation for Servers offering would allow companies to better implement and manage server virtualisation setups. The platform will allow administrators to manage virtualised server deployments based on the Red Hat Enterprise Linux platform.

Included in the Virtualisation for Servers platform will be Red Hat's standalone Virtualisation Hypervisor system as well as a Virtualisation Manager tool designed to help administrators manage multiple virtualised server setups.

The server tool is seen as the second piece in Red Hat virtualisation strategy. The platform is designed to connect with the September release of the Enterprise Linux 5.4 operating system, which supports the kernel-based virtual machine system.

"Red Hat Enterprise Virtualisation is truly differentiated from other virtualisation solutions as it inherits the powerful functionality, hardware support and certification of Red Hat Enterprise Linux," said Red Hat president of products and technologies Paul Cormier.

"We believe that Red Hat Enterprise Virtualisation, especially the management components, will allow customers to use virtualisation pervasively."
