QLD Transport to release EOI to establish hybrid SOC

The Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) is intending to issue an Expression of Interest (EOI) to the market in the near future seeking the provision of managed services for the establishment of a hybrid Security Operations Centre (SOC) working in collaboration with the Department’s existing Cyber Defence team.

The scope of services will likely include security monitoring services (24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year); cyber incident response, including detection, investigation, containment, eradication and recovery; jointly managing TMR’s security information and event management (SIEM) platform(s) and associated platform features and components to enhance security operations and maturity; and support future planning and continuous improvement.

Suppliers will be required to complete a confidentiality deed and meet minimum mandatory participation requirements set out in the EOI in order to qualify for the upcoming Invitation to Offer (ITO).

At this stage, the EOI is estimated to be published in mid-August with the ITO to follow in late August.

Earlier this year, the TMR announced it is seeking to transfer hosting of its 30-year-old transport registration and integrated licensing system - TRAILS - from an IBM z16 mainframe, managed by state-run IT provider CITEC, to the cloud.
