People Telecom gets new data warehousing deal

People Telecom has penned a new contract with AT&T for the provision of co-location services and domestic voice telecom services.

The deal will see AT&T relocate its global network node in Perth to People Telecom’s Internet Data Centre for five years, with a further five year option.

Domestic voice services will also be provided to the US telco for three years. The terms of the deal have not been disclosed.

People Telecom CEO, Ryan O’Hare, said in an ASX statement that the company had been working closely with AT&T for some time to secure the agreement which would benefit both companies.

AT&T managing director Jeyan Jeevaratnam, said the company was expected to save around 50 per cent on its domestic calling costs.

In the 2005 financial year People Telecom’s revenues reached $100 million.

AT&T claims to be one of the world’s largest telecommunications holding companies and the largest in the United States.

It holds a 60 percent ownership interest in wireless services provider Cingular Wireless which claims more than than 52 million wireless customers.
