Optus has launched its first own-branded device since 2010 with the release of the 4G Optus X Sleek smartphone for $149.
The Optus X Sleek is powered by a 1.3GHz quad-core processor, 2GB RAM and runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow. It comes with 16GB of storage, but has the option to expand up to 128GB with a microSD.
It weighs just 156 grams and is fitted with a 5-inch screen with a 1280 x 720 resolution. It also comes with a 13 MP rear facing camera and fingerprint sensor.
The last own-branded device Optus sold was the Optus My Tab, an Android tablet manufactured by Chinese vendor ZTE.
Optus managing director of marketing and product Ben White said: “We know that our customers are looking for affordable handset options without having to compromise on features or quality, and the Optus X brand will deliver a range of devices with the features they’re looking for.”
The device is sold from Optus stores and resellers including Big W, Officeworks, Kmart and Coles and is available either prepaid or on a monthly plan.
