Optus won a contract to rollout IP telephony infrastructure at nine Victorian TAFE institutions.
Under the agreement, Optus will install Cisco Unified Communications products with the carrier's managed telephony and carriage service at the TAFE facilities.
Around 4000 Cisco IP phones will be installed at campuses located in Box Hill, Central Gippsland, Chisholm, East Gippsland, Holmesglen, Kangan Batman, South West, Sunraysia and William Angliss.
The rollout includes Cisco Unified IP Phone 7941G and 7961G handsets, Cisco Catalyst 3750 and 6500 series switches, Cisco unified contact centre software, security monitoring, an analysis and response system and integrated messaging.
Rob Parcell, the director of Optus Victoria, said the telco has been providing telecommunications services to Victorian TAFEs under the Victorian Government's Telecommunications Purchasing and Management Strategy.
This strategy allowed government departments and agencies to access cheaper and superior telecommunications services and was initiated in 2004.
