Optus has announced the availability of 4G services in Adelaide, with four cell sites switched on in the city.
The 4G network's coverage area is currently limited to central Adelaide. Its footprint encompasses Hackney, North Adelaide, Medindie and Fitzroy.
The service was originally planned to go live in early 2013.
“The response from customers in other capital cities has been so positive we’ve accelerated the rollout of 4G to Adelaide, several months ahead of schedule,” Optus Networks managing director Günther Ottendorfer said.
Optus introduced 4G services for small business and enterprise customers in Sydney and Perth in July.
This was followed by a wider consumer launch in September for Sydney, Perth, Newcastle and Melbourne.
Optus' 2013 roadmap includes software defined networking in the cloud and the expansion of 4G into other metropolitan areas.
It has also announced plans to upgrade its 3G network Australia-wide with faster speeds and better indoor reception.
