Despite Microsoft’s insistence that Vista is one of the greatest Operating Systems (OS) to have ever been developed, partners and users have been reluctant to switch their allegiance from Windows XP.
Cameron Kneebone, sales manager for Masterlink Computers QLD, said, as far the average consumer is concerned - "Vista is dead in the water".
“Our new computers with Windows XP far out sell the machines with Vista on them, and each Vista sale is an uphill struggle,” he said.
“Far too much bad press from various sources has killed Vista in the eyes of the general public.”
As far as Kneebone is concerned, if you renamed Vista and gave it a look more similar to XP and made the UAC not as intrusive people would accept it.
“Now it doesn't matter how good Vista will become as the albatross around its neck is its name and all the baggage attached to that name,” he said.
“As we deal with many businesses whose software has only recently started supporting XP properly, the thought of having to install Vista into those situations would be nightmarish.
“We have stocked up on XP Pro's to try and guard against that eventuality for as long as we can.”
Kneebone believes his reputation would have been “lost” if he had forced this into our clients setups.
“They expect us to provide the correct solution to their situation and issues, Vista does not provide this, either in a real and/or perceived way,” he said
