Office 365 and AWS first with new federal govt certification

Office 365, Azure and AWS have become the first cloud services on a new Australian government certification list.

The Certified Cloud Services List was published this week and includes Microsoft Office 365, Azure and AWS EBS, EC2, S3 and VPC.

The certification is awarded by the Australian Signals Directorate (ASD) and means the cloud services are certified for handling unclassified “Dissemination Limiting Markers” data.

“Many” cloud computing services are currently going through the ASD's certification process, and the list is expected to be updated in the near future, according to the ASD's Information Security Registered Assessors Program website.

The news follows Microsoft’s announcement on 31 March that Office 365 and Dynamics CRM were now being delivered via data centres located in Australia. Local delivery of Azure was announced last year.

Microsoft announced it had received compliance for Office 365 in late March. The assessment process covered Exchange Online, Sharepoint Online and Skype for Business, as well as Microsoft's cloud and infrastructure operations and Australian data centre facilities.
