Observatory Crest adds ethernet switches to portfolio

Arista is a specialist developer of networking products primarily targeted at large data centre and cloud computing environments.

It was co-founded by Silicon Valley veterans Jayshree Ullal, formerly senior VP of Cisco Systems, and Andreas Bechtolsheim, a co-founder of Sun Microsystems and early investor in Google.

Martin Christmas said the Australia and New Zealand distribution agreement covers Arista's complete product suite including the flagship 7100 series switches that run the Arista Extensible Modular Operating System targeted at large data centre and cloud computing environments.

Christmas told CRN, the distributor will complement Arista's products with its own range of pre-sales support, marketing, lead generation and training services.

Arista engaged the services of a local consultant to evaluate distribution options for Arista and identified Observatory Crest as the organisation with the right focus and coverage, he said.

"We can leverage our existing partner base to compliment the products we already support."

The Arista 7100 Series enables 10 Gigabit ethernet to be deployed everywhere in the data centre, which can improve server utilisation and consequently data center power efficiency, the vendor claimed.

Christmas said it sees early adopters of the technology being in the data centre/could computing space along with customers in the financial/ telco/government and academic markets.

"Even though it is a highly competitive market, we believe the price/performance advantages of Arista will attract reasonable margins.
