NZ's SMX to become big(..ger) in Japan

The Mitsui Group, Japan’s second largest public company has inked a deal to distribute and resell in Japan cloud-based email security software from New Zealand tech company SMX.

The deal will see Mitsui’s subsidiary Mitsui Bussan Secure Directions (MBSD) take responsibility for the SMX product in the Japanese territory.

“We anticipate that Mitsui will be a key partner for us in the Japanese market,” said Tiaan Blaauw, SMX vice president of global sales, said in a statement. “Mitsui Bussan Secure Directions is the email security market leader in Japan and has been a consistent innovator in bringing new security products and services to the Japanese market.

“Acting as an SMX distributor, MBSD will sell SMX into its well established reseller network. MBSD will also sell SMX directly to its large corporate customers. The agreement also allows SMX to continue to contract directly with the reseller community in Japan,” he added.

Mitsui indicated the SMX solution is appropriate for Japanese companies and ISPs because it does all the email filtering on-shore, in Japan. Offshore filtering can become a security problem, the company said.

SMX already has 40,000 individual users in Japan, the result of a previous win with internet hosting company Ride.
