Nortel restructures, A/NZ MD goes

The network vendor's media representative told CRN that under the new corporate structure, effective as of February, Nortel's business across Asia will be divided between its Carrier and Enterprise divisions.

The new business leaders for A/NZ are Anthony McLachlan - who leads the
Carrier business throughout the Asia Pacific and Greater China region - and Mark Fioretto, Enterprise Leader for A/NZ and ASEAN.

The restructure is said to be in line with the global business restructuring announced in November 2008.

It is not yet known where Stevens will be heading.

The news of restructure comes off the back of Nortel's announcement, in January, that after years of mounting losses and trouble, it filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in the US and under the Companies' Creditors Arrangement Act (CCAA) in Canada.

Mark Fioretto, vice president enterprise, Asia South Pacific for Nortel, said its affiliates across Asia Pacific, including Australia, are not included in the Chapter 11 and CCAA Creditor Protection proceedings and are expected to continue to operate as normal.

"We remain fully committed to supporting our customers and partners in Australia and around the world through this process," said Fioretto.

"The process we announced today is designed to translate our improved operational efficiency, double-digit productivity, focused research and development on technology."

At the time, Fioretto told CRN that there were no specific announcements made regarding job loss in the region.

"We are undertaking a comprehensive business and financial restructuring to strengthen the business and ensure its long-term viability.

CRN will keep readers updated with more information as it comes.
