New app turns iPads into POS devices

Cloud-based point of sale software vendor Kounta has launched a free app that turns any iPad or iPad mini into a cloud-enabled POS device.

“Our software works on any point of sale device, but we saw a need in the market to bring the software specifically to the iPad because it has such a strong market penetration,” said Kounta managing director and founder Nick Cloete.

While the application is free to download and install, users must pay a monthly subscription fee to actually use it as part of their business processes.

“We’ve had a really strong response to the app,” said Cloete. “The POS software also integrates with payment and ordering services such as PayPal, Beat the Q and Xero.”

Cloete said the company recently won the business of international franchise system Mr Pretzel, which has close to 200 stores across the globe.

Closer to home, Kounta is also used by SMH Good Food Guide Best New Café Excelsior Jones, as well as other SMH-recognised businesses including Brickfields, Gelato Messina and the Sonoma Baking Company.
