New AI engineering category added to DMP2 marketplace

The Australian Government’s BuyICT agency has launched a new Artificial Intelligence Engineering category under the Digital Marketplace Panel 2 (DMP2).

The category gives government buyers access to sellers that can provide technical AI services, including developing and deploying models, integrating AI into existing platforms, and supporting the ongoing management of AI systems.

Buyers can approach sellers in this category for quotes, with additional sellers expected to become available as panel agreements are finalised.

DMP2 re-opened to new sellers in November 2025, introducing AI Engineering as a new Professional and Consulting Services category.

The category focuses on specialised AI tasks that extend beyond standard software engineering or analytics, including designing, deploying and managing AI systems.

Earlier this year, users of the DMP2 called for more transparency and clearer guidance around contracting pathways, pricing approaches, AI provisions and warranties and maintenance.
