The acquisition offers NetComm access to Call Direct’s expertise as a developer of industrial 3G wireless technologies.
Call Direct designs, manufactures and distributes a range of commercial/industrial grade routers and modems specifically built for use over cellular networks. It was born in 1997 in response to the deregulated Australian electricity industries’ statutory commitment to provide real time data collection.
Barry Mitchell, managing director at Call Direct said it has built a reputation over the years as a specialist developer of industrial 3G wireless technology.
It has had particular success in developing equipment for use in remote or hostile environments and systems designed for unmanned operation.
This has included work with clients such as Telstra and the Bureau of Meteorology, claimed Mitchell.
The intellectual property will expand NetComm’s offerings and its range to suit a broader range of international markets.
“We’re looking forward to being able to continue our focus on developing leading edge technology whilst being backed by NetComm’s strong marketing and distribution infrastructure,” he said.
“This will allow us to better turn our expertise into commercial realities and take Australian products into the international marketplace.”
Mitchell and his co-founder Michael Cornelius, will bring five engineering and four support staff with them to the networking equipment vendor.
