NEC Australia secures contract with Turk Telecom

NEC Australia has signed up to provide Turk Telekom (TT)with 221,000 DSL lines to its broadband subscriber base in Turkey.

Toshiharu Iwasa, NEC Australia’s Managing Director said it had already deployed almost 320,000 DSL lines to TT (a Turkish telecommunications company) in the past two years.

”The new order will bring the total to 541,000 lines," he said. "Over the next few years, we expect to grow our market share in Turkey and aim to expand into new markets such as Europe and China.”

An NEC Australia spokesperson said the deal was for an undisclosed sum. The company first supplied DSL technology to Turk Telekom in 2003.

In other NEC Australia news, it has announced the deployment of its TV over DSL solution to half a million subscribers to PCCW, a TV service in Hong Kong.

NEC Australia first conducted video over DSL trials in 1995 and collaborated closely with PCCW to deliver a complete Pay TV experience over broadband, a design years ahead of its time.

The company also recently conducted an IPTV trial with TT.
