NASDAQ-listed Varonis buys database security firm Cyral

New York City-based Varonis said it has acquired Florida-headquartered Cyral, a next-generation database activity monitoring provider, to enhance its data security platform offerings.

Varonis will integrate Cyral's cloud-native database activity monitoring (DAM) technology with its existing related security solutions to help customers upgrade from legacy systems.

Cyral's approach uses agentless and stateless interception technology that deploys quickly and overcomes challenges faced by traditional vendors in preventing data breaches and ensuring compliance.

"By combining Cyral's cloud-native DAM with Varonis' robust and growing database security capabilities, customers can begin to upgrade their costly legacy solutions, shattering the silos that have traditionally separated structured and unstructured data security," Yaki Faitelson, chief executive officer, president, and co-founder of Varonis, said.

The database market is projected to reach US$225 billion by 2028, driven by cloud computing advancements and artificial intelligence applications, Varonis said.

Major database platforms like Databricks and Snowflake have created virtually unlimited capacity and frictionless access to databases, data lakes, and data pipelines.

Meanwhile, vector databases that form the foundation of AI model training and processing are presenting security teams with unprecedented challenges in scale, volume, and complexity.

Varonis aims to address these challenges by providing a unified data security platform that protects data wherever it resides, whether at rest or in motion.

"Varonis' acquisition of Cyral brings together a shared vision for securing customers' data end-to-end as AI ushers in a new era of growth and innovation," Mital, co-founder and chief executive officer of Cyral, said.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed by Varonis.

Varonis opened a data centre in Australia back in 2023.
