Mwave offers free shipping

Online technology retailer Mwave has offered customers free shipping on all orders placed between midday Friday (March 19) and midnight Saturday (March 20) in an effort to arrest the impact of its public spat with Australia's competition watchdog.

Mwave said in a press release that the promotion was "in response to recent public statements appearing in the media this week.

"A recent misunderstanding reported in the press may have given the wrong impression of what Mwave is about," said Mwave marketing manager, Steve Grant. "The team at Mwave works incredibly hard, and we take our reputation and our customer's perception very seriously."

Earlier this week, the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission released details of actions taken against Mwave over its refusal to offer customers a warranty or pay for any shipping costs when goods are found to be defective.

The online retailer told CRN that it was "embarrassed" by the ACCC action, which had commenced last year.

Grant said the Friday and Saturday promotion should be considered a form of "apology" from Mwave staff for the "unintentional confusion" caused by the incident.
