Motorola has confirmed that it will launch a mobile phone running Google's Android operating system.
The handset maker has sent out press invitations to a launch event in London on 15 September for the device.
Motorola will be holding similar events that week worldwide for its as yet unsighted Android mobile phone. These kick off in the US on 10 September, winding up in London after the weekend.
There have been rumours and speculation for some time as to the next company to come out with an Android mobile phone, so the suspense is over at least for the moment.
Reports have also surfaced on the web about Motorola phones with names like 'Sholes' and 'Morrison' that are said to be possible Android handsets.
Motorola will join the ranks of manufacturers making Android-based handsets, such as Samsung, while HTC retains a commanding lead in the category.
