Modis Consulting selected to take NSW's jury system global

Modis Consulting has landed a deal to commercialise the NSW state government's Jury Management System.

The $4.2 million system was originally launched in 2014 by the NSW Attorney-General's in-house IT team on a Java platform that includes the Spring framework, Hibernate object-relational mapping (ORM) library and Apache Maven build automation tool.

The system manages information on jurors and selects members of the public at random to participate in jury duty. It also allows them to apply online to be excused from their duties, as well as specify payment preferences and review schedules.

JMS has cut processing time by approximately 75 percent thanks to lower ongoing maintenance and training costs, and according to Modis.

As part of the arrangement, Modis won a $203,000 contract for ongoing maintenance and support for the NSW government. Modis will also act as the official reseller for JMS, taking the solution to court jurisdictions in Australia and across the globe.

“Modis is excited to add this unique cloud-based solution to our solution portfolio and we will ensure the JMS continues to optimise the jury management selection process by streamlining and automating the selection activities and improving service quality and efficiency,” Modis solutions and innovation practice lead Peter Hawkins said.

Modis executive general manager Byron Rudenno added that the company was “thrilled to take such an innovative solution to market. The JMS improves stakeholder engagement, is a digital platform to remove manual processes, and in return will provide a process and cost saving to court jurisdictions worldwide. Modis are proud to be a partner in showcasing NSW government innovation."

Modis is part of the Adecco Group and was known as Ajilon Australia it changed its name in April last year.
