Microsoft's Power BI gets more BI Power

Microsoft has added several new features to the Power BI for Office 365 preview. This is a self-service business intelligence (BI) service delivered through Office 365.

Power BI for Office 365 allows customers to deploy a cloud-based BI environment where people can share insights, collaborate and access reports, from anywhere.

The updates include natural language search with Q&A and improved experiences through add-ins for Excel with 3D mapping visualisations through Power Map and improved data search in Power Query.

Q&A allows customers to search enterprise data using natural language queries.

Power Map (formerly code named GeoFlow) has been updated to include new region-based visualization tools that colour-code geo-political areas including zip codes, counties, states, countries and regions. It also enables customers to create videos.

Power Query now includes an improved online search experience and an expanded number of available datasets including those from data.gov and the Windows Azure Marketplace, in addition to Wikipedia.

For a limited time Power BI is offered at the promotional price of $20 per user/month to new or existing Office 365 Enterprise E3 or E4 customers. The price jumps to $40 per user per month for non E3 or E4 customers and $52 per user per month for users that don't have the latest version of Excel or SharePoint Online Plan 2.
