SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - Microsoft, the world's largest software maker, said on Thursday that it has acquired a company that provides file management services that allows users access to information from various devices over the web.
Microsoft did not disclose how much it paid for FolderShare, a privately-held company based in Austin, Texas.
Microsoft said that acquisition will help it bolster its new strategy of providing more software-based services over the internet to customers, an initiative called Windows Live that was announced earlier this week.
"Our mission for Windows Live is to enable customers to easily find the information, pursue the interests and deepen the relationships that enrich their lives," said Blake Irving, vice president at Microsoft's MSN Internet division.
