Melbourne SAP partner Inecom has notched up an Australian first by delivering a monthly subscription-based form of the Business One enterprise resource planning (ERP) software.
"We're excited to be the only trusted partner in Australia to offer this service," said Inecom managing director Simon Bishop.
According to Inecom, subscription model puts Business One within reach of the smallest businesses.
Business One is the entry-level ERP product by SAP, aimed at small- to medium-sized businesses. It competes with other "lighter" ERP offerings such as Oracle's JD Edwards EnterpriseOne, NetSuite and Microsoft Dynamics. NetSuite and Microsoft both provide their service as a cloud subscription.
SAP already offers its RDBMS product, Hana, as a cloud subscription with an hourly rate (Hana One). It is also marketed as an easy point-of-entry for small scale customers and proof-of-concept work.
Bishop said he doesn't expect the subscription service to affect the traditional Business One product, because they target different markets.
"The customers that have the money will still spend on [the original] Business One," said Bishop. "The monthly payment model... will grow the market."
Inecom started its reseller partnership with SAP in 2004 and was the first to bring the Business One product to Australia, according to Bishop. It also resells the SAP Crystal Reports product.
The Melbourne-based company was recognised by SAP last year with an award for its project methodology.
