Melbourne Citrix beta-tester hails ‘intelligence’ push

Melbourne Citrix partner Teba has hailed the vendor’s evolving digital workspaces strategy.

Citrix used its May 2019 Synergy conference to preview “Citrix Workspace Intelligence”, an enhancement to its digital workspace. Citrix’s ambition has evolved beyond its current trick of running an in-house app store that presents an organisation’s key applications in one interface.

Now the company wants to parse those application so that end-users see the functions or screens they use most. Or to use Citrix’s new word for this, a “microapp”. The vendor plans to shop over 100 microapp templates and tools to build more, and offers the example of a leave application in Workday as a way to demonstrate microapps’ relevance. Today, the company says, an end-user has to open Workday and navigate to the leave application. A microapp would give users direct access to the leave application screen without the other navigation.

Craig Stones from long-time Citrix partner Teba is beta-testing Workspace Intelligence and told CRN he thinks it’s a winner.

“When I talk to customers they tell me they have to log into multiple tools and they get a coffee while they wait,” he said. “A single pane of glass for all apps and signing on once is the look and feel that customers want.”

Teba said he expects he’ll need to find new staff to build microapps, and that doing so will pay off because the technology will attract customers.

“When this comes out, it will help us bring in more customers and save them time and effort and money,” he said, adding that he feels it will also encourage customers to adopt hybrid clouds.

Safi Obeidullah, Citrix ANZ’s director of sales engineering, said Workspace Intelligence will debut by the end of 2019.
