McAfee has struck a deal to purchase mobile security specialist Trust Digital.
The company said that it would be making the acquisition in an effort to bolster its mobile security operations and add to its line of endpoint protection products.
Among the platforms McAfee hopes to add security offerings for are Android, iPhone OS, Web OS, Symbian and Windows Mobile.
Additionally, the company is planning to integrate the Trust Digital Policy and Compliance Management tool with its ePolicy Orchestrator platform, allowing administrators to better manage corporate handsets.
The company is also planning to pursue deals with mobile operators to offer security services for both the consumer and enterprise markets.
"The acquisition of Trust Digital’s industry-leading enterprise mobility management solutions will extend the current McAfee security portfolio beyond the traditional endpoint, addressing the rapidly expanding mobile security market," said McAfee chief executive Dave DeWalt.
"Through this acquisition, we believe McAfee can expand its reach into new markets, secure new platforms and strengthen its leadership position."
McAfee said that it expects the transaction to be completed by the end of June. Because Trust Digital is privately-owned the companies are not required to disclose terms of the deal.
