Lenovo IdeaTab has Samsung Galaxy Note in its sights

Oversized smartphones-cum-miniature tablets will be latest mobile phone bandwagon, if this batch of leaked spy shots of Lenovo's 5in IdeaTab are anything to go on.

Intrepid web explorers Engadget spotted the shots, which suggest Lenovo is convinced there's a market for these hybrid devices. Following in the footsteps of the Samsung Galaxy Note, Lenovo could be on the verge of releasing its very own super-sized (or mini, depending on how you look at it) dual-core Android device.

So, while the specs of Lenovo's Tegra 3-toting supertablet might seem tempting, you may want to hold out for something a little more pocket-friendly. But other than the 5.3in screen real estate, we're short on additional information and have very little to glean from the snaps – other than a microUSB and microHDMI ports, alongside a front-facing camera and a trio of traditional capacitive buttons. Word is it may also ship with an Ice Cream Sandwich or Honeycomb on the inside. And that's about it.

Whether or not you think that 5in devices a la the Samsung Note and Dell Streak are the future, it sounds like we could be welcoming a new addition to this hybrid family in the near future. We're looking forward to checking it out at CES in January.
