Lenovo debuts twisty Windows 8 ThinkPad

Lenovo has unwrapped a new Windows 8 device, with the laptop/tablet hybrid “Twist” to arrive down under on the same day as Microsoft releases its new OS.

The 12.5in ultrabook is powered by a third-generation Intel Core i7 processor. It can be flipped, folded, twisted and turned.

“This multi-form factor device is the first of its kind by Lenovo and we believe it is going to revolutionise the future of convertible computing,” said Lenovo productor director David Heyworth in a statement.

The ultrabook becomes a tablet by twisting and folding down the screen. The Twist offers up to 500GB of storage, optional 128GB SSD, a 1366 x 768 resolution display, mini-HDMI input as well as a Display Port, two USB 3.0 and Ethernet ports.

The 20mm thick, 1.6kg ultrabook comes in black with a chrome band. It will sell for an RRP of $A1049 from the Lenovo website and its reseller partners from October 26.

The business device follows the launch of Lenovo’s IdeaPad Yoga, a similarly convertible hybrid device aimed at consumers that is unlikely to be made available in Australia initially.

Despite the fast expansion of the Idea consumer range globally, none of its products are available in Australia. However, Lenovo recently revealed to CRN it was a matter of ‘when, not if’ the consumer range would make it down under.
