Legrand buys Sydney power distribution firm VASS Electrical Industries

French electrical and digital building infrastructure company Legrand Group has acquired Sydney-based busway power distribution solutions firm VASS Electrical Industries.

Founded in 1958, VASS has 35 staff and "a strong focus on the fast-growing data centre market, as well as commercial and infrastructure segments," Legrand said.

According to the company, the data centre sector is one of Legrand's "fastest growing segments that contributes to around 15 percent of its sales globally."

In Australia, Legrand has seen "double-digit growth year-on-year on its data centre offering," the company said.

The acquisition of Vass follows Legrand's purchase of Auckland-based cable management solution firm Mechanical Support Systems in March 2024.

Legrand Australia distributes electrical and digital infrastructure solutions under six brands including Legrand, HPM, Bticino, Starline, Raritan and now VASS.

The company said local manufacturing from its Sydney facility represents 40 percent of Legrand Australia’s revenue.

According to the company, it's global strategic roadmap "focuses on initiatives in growth and development including targeted acquisitions, innovative product launches and expanding into new markets."
