Kogan is diversifying its product line once again, this time venturing into a line of smart home products that will be available exclusively from its online retail store.
The Kogan SmarterHome range will start with two smart heaters, priced at $99 during the pre-sale period, and $129. The company said it would expand its smart home range throughout the year to include smart lights, plugs, portable air conditioners and other connected devices.
Kogan's smart devices can all be controlled through the company's free SmarterHome app available for iOS and Android.
“Smart home technology is the future of simplifying our lives and now we get to help bring that future into the homes of more Australians,” Kogan director of exclusive brands Sergiy Bobrovnychyy said.
“Developing this technology hasn’t just been about making it more affordable. We’ve worked hard to ensure the entire Kogan SmarterHome experience is very simple."
The smart home line is just the latest in a growing list of products the online retailer has launched in the past year. Last week, Kogan announced it would start selling whitegoods and kitchen appliances from its website. Other recent ventures include life insurance and health insurance.
Australia's two biggest telcos, Telstra and Optus, have both launched their own smart home ranges in the past two years. Kogan also competes with Australia's largest telcos in the home broadband market, selling its first NBN plans resold from Vodafone in April.
Kogan's share price took a hit yesterday after the company revealed that its founders, Ruslan Kogan and David Shafer, had "reluctantly" sold off 6 million shares, reportedly worth $42 million. Shares dipped by more than seven percent after the announcement, dropping from $7.87 each to $7.31 at the time of writing.
