Another week, another new vertical for Kogan, and this time it’s the energy market.
The online retailer announced a multi-year partnership with Powershop Australia to sell power and gas services to Australian households under the Kogan Energy banner.
Kogan said its new venture will focus on simplifying provisioning power and gas and “making these essential services more affordable through digital efficiency.”
Kogan Energy is expected to launch before the end of 2019. More details will be announced closer to launch.
“Kogan.com is excited to partner with Powershop, which is part of Meridian Energy – Australasia’s largest 100 percent renewable energy generator,” said Kogan executive director David Shafer.
“This partnership will enable Kogan.com to offer Aussies low cost power and gas, and a first-class customer experience using technology that will enable customers to easily track their energy usage at any time.”
The new energy business will pair nicely with Kogan Energy Compare, the company's energy comparison tool that allows customers to upload existing bills to see whether they can make any savings by switching to a rival energy provider. Kogan earns commissions from the tool.
Kogan is currently fighting the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission over allegations that it misled customers with its advertising.
