Kern Internet’s managing director Phil Kern said after 17 years of being in business he has made the decision to cease trading.
According to Kern in order for it to continue its current level of service, it would need to substantially increase its prices.
“We don’t believe it’s in our customer’s best interests, which is why we’ve decided to negotiate a package with another ISP,” said Kern. “We’re pleased that our customers will be looked after by such a strong performing South Australian ISP in Adam Internet.”
Adam Internet was established around 20 years ago and is one of South Australia’s first ISPs. The ISP plans to continue its rapid growth with a move to quadruple its customer base to 300,000 customers and number of staff to up to 500 in the next three years.
Scott Hicks managing director at Adam Internet said Kern Internet’s 5000 South Australian-based residential and business customers will be transferred to Adam Internet effective 1 August.
The package provides Kern Internet’s customers with a transition with Adam
Internet, who will honour existing contracts and customers being able to keep their existing email addresses.
“Having an existing relationship with Kern Internet, we were able to reach an agreement that ensures its customers are not left in the lurch,” Hicks said. “We have the distinct benefit of owning our own infrastructure and broadband ports, while also providing wholesale services to many other ISPs.”
