System integrator KAZ has won a $4 million, year-long contract with NSW's Department of Mineral Resources to develop a web-based electronic service delivery application and re-engineer other software.
In the deal, KAZ Technology Services will develop a centralised data repository for the St Leonards-based Department, which maintains several databases of information for mining and mineral exploration companies.
Improved applications are expected to drive process improvements, reduce maintenance costs, improve the accuracy of data and remove redundancies, KAZ said in a statement.
"The NSW Department of Mineral Resources wants to ensure that the people of NSW benefit from the assessment, development and management of their mineral resources," it said.
The Department plans to move its main operations base to Maitland in NSW's Hunter Valley in October 2004. As a result, the Department seeks new ways to deliver services previously provided over the counter in Sydney.
KAZ said it had proposed an electronic service delivery application that enables the Department to offer online sales and delivery of mining related information and data.
Mining companies would be able to get geological information, title information and applications for mining leases over the internet or by CD-ROM, the company said.
Andrew Richardson, MD at KAZ Technology Services, said the Department required a service provider with web application development and project management skills.
"KAZ clearly differentiated itself as an expert in these areas," Richardson said.
