IPL Communications has announced its intention to chase larger businesses and is looking to recruit resellers at the big end of town.
The distributor is on the hunt for partners that are targeting organisations with up to 500 seats.
Typically, the Alcatel and Avaya distributor was distributing products to companies with up to 300 seats. "We've started the search for new national resellers that are already servicing that [larger] market," said Dean Joscelyne, director at IPL Communications.
He added that mid to large data and voice integrators working in this space were of particular interest to the distributor.
The distributor has also started rolling out a finance arm, dubbed IPL Finance, which would allow resellers to offer equipment rentals for customers using the distributor's money.
In other news, the distributor is developing a four-port IP-based voice, fax and EFTPOS device for small business in conjunction with telco Optus.
The device, dubbed Kaboodle, an IP-based integrated appliance for sites with fewer than five extensions, would be the only product in the market to offer quality of service features for businesses of this size, he said.
Joscelyne said the distributor would know within 12 weeks whether or not the product would become commercially available.
It would be sold through Optus' and IPL's existing channel partners, he said.
Twelve months ago, IPL forged a master distribution relationship with Optus, which gave it access to all of the telco's products except satellite services, Joscelyne said.
