Intel has devised a new set of specifications for tablets running its Clover Trail processors, with nine of the world's biggest hardware vendors eagerly jumping on board with new models.
The likes of Asus, Acer, Dell, Fujistu, HP, Lenovo, LG, Samsung and ZTE have all announced intentions to build new devices based on Intel specifications, and running Microsoft's upcoming Windows 8 OS.
Tablets on their way include the Lenovo Think Pad 2, Asus Vivo Tab, Dell Latitude 10 and Samsung ATIV Smart PC.
Intel requires the devices be lighter than 680g, less than 8.5mm thick, and include 3G, 4G, and NFC. The dual-core Atom Z2760 'Clover Tail' chip is based on the 1.8GHz dual-core Atom Z2760.
The tablets will also all have 10 hour battery life and three weeks standby. They are likely to sell for around $US800.
