Integrator safeguards client against natural disasters

New Zealand-based integrator Deptive has overhauled the IT systems of trans-Tasman law firm Duncan Cotterill.

Duncan Cotterill staff had suffered limited access to files and devices due to the earthquakes in 2011; the overhaul aims to "improve business synchronicity and act as a business safeguard should remote access ever be required – as it was during the Christchurch earthquake in 2011".

The law firm, which has five offices across Australia and New Zealand, commissioned Citrix to overhaul its IT infrastructure so that its 270 staff could access documents and files remotely.

Citrix transitioned the law firm from a single data centre to its cloud-based enterprise software solution. Roger Sillars, IT manager at Duncan Cotterill, said the new IT infrastructure meant "lawyers at the firm were suddenly unrestricted by time, device or location".

"Our clients work across jurisdictions and time zones. There was a strong desire among staff to be more mobile and aligned to the needs of our clients," said Sillars.

The new IT system features a fail-safe, he added. "We took additional measures to replicate this data centre in real time to a secondary data centre in a different city.  If any natural disaster occurs we can still meet the needs of our clients, regardless of where they are located."
