Well-known channel personality, John Walters, will head up the entire sales division for Australia’s largest distributor. Promoted from the position of Commercial and Solutions Group director, he will now run the retail arm of Ingram Micro.
“The Solutions Group is going really well and now I can focus on the retail division,” said Walters. “I really need to get out in the market. I need to do a lot of listening. We need to see what value we can add to the retail channel and see what leadership I can give to the team so we can work better with our vendors and partners.”
Marlene Gant left the position of retail sales director to join Simms International as its new retail boss. This gave Guy Freeland, managing director of Ingram Micro, the opportunity to form one key position and promote Walters. Within the Solutions Group, Stuart Ellis is now general manager and will report directly to Freeland.
Walters explained that the promotion of Ellis and the fact that he is reporting directly to Freeland highlights Ingram’s commitment to the Solutions Group. The move will give Walters more bandwidth to concentrate on retail although he will still be involved in the Solutions Group and is passionate about the channel.
“The people are the key thing I enjoy about working in the channel. There‘s some really good people in the channel to work with. It’s so dynamic, always changing with new products and new technology. You always have to stay ahead of the game,” he added.
