Ingram Micro has transferred its VMware marketing development manager from its US headquarters to the role of Data Centre Business Unit manager in Australia.
Frank Tilleli has kick started his fifth year with Ingram in the new role, replacing Tertuis Bezuidenhout.
Tilleli spent four years in the VMware role, where he gained experience with the virtualisation vendor, specifically around the VMware-Cisco-EMC (VCE) alliance.
"I was approached by David Lenz [general manager of Ingram's enterprise technology group], at VMWorld in San Francisco and we were discussing what was going on in North America in terms of VMware.
It was there that he suggested Sydney as an option, said Tilleli.
"I've done a lot of go-to-market strategies for Ingram Micro," he said.
Tilleli said he in the process of getting to know the [Australian] market and understanding what the local partner and vendor expectations are.
"It's very important for me to understand where they see distribution playing. What I bring to the market depends on the market."
Asked whether he will have a hand in extending Ingram US' partnership with Salesforce.com, Amazon and Rackspace to Australia, Tilleli said, "if it's an appropriate market for certain strategies and certain alignments it will be my job to put the right resources in place."
Tilleli said the Australian IT channel is quite "educated and well rounded.
"I've been very impressed with the level of expertise here," he said.
Despite the market maturity, Tilleli said there's room for growth.
"It's not saturated, especially within the data centre, virtualisation and security in the data centre.
"I'm actually very excited about the opportunities," he said.
