Internet service provider iiNet is cementing its place as a mobile reseller with a push into accessories and strong early sales numbers for its new deal with Apple.
David Buckingham, chief executive of the Perth-based company, told investors that iiNet would launch the 'iiOnlineStore' in the first week of December.
The online store will sell accessories such as cases and covers, screen guards, wireless charging cases, wearable devices, headphones and cables.
The push into accessories goes hand in hand with more weight behind mobile, with the ISP now selling mobile plans, based on the Optus network, to non-iiNet customers. It is also selling mobile handsets outright.
Previously, it only sold mobile plans to existing iiNet broadband users.
iiNet began selling Apple iPhones on 7 November, shifting a thousand devices in the first day, said Buckingham.
Until now, iiNet's forays into mobile have focused squarely on Samsung, first with business plans in 2011 then in the consumer space since 2012.
"It has taken us a few years to get Apple to come to the table with a reasonable offer we were prepared to commit to," said Buckingham.
While Telstra, Optus and Vodafone all resell iPhones, iiNet is the only tier-two telco that can sell the Apple device.
