Superloop has appointed iiNet founder Michael Malone as executive chairman of the network infrastructure provider.
He replaces Superloop founder Bevan Slattery, who will take on the chief executive role after 16 months as interim CEO.
Malone founded iiNet in 1993 and was chief executive of the internet services provider until 2014. A year later, iiNet was acquired by TPG. He joined Superloop's board of directors in April 2015, and also serves on the boards of NBN, Seven West Media, SpeedCast and Dreamscape, and is the chairman of Perth cyber security firm Diamond Cyber.
Slattery said he was honoured to have Malone guide the company through its next growth phase.
"The opportunity that is presented to Superloop across the Asia-Pacific region and within Australia is compelling," said Slattery.
"We have constructed a high quality network of connectivity infrastructure and will benefit from the economics and control that ownership provides. The completion of the INDIGO international cable systems in mid-2019 will further expand our network so we can offer customers a fully meshed Pan-Asian network."
Last year, Superloop acquired wireless and IT services provider BigAir, opening up a new front to create a rival super-fast internet provider to the NBN.
"The BigAir acquisition completed in December last year provides us with an Australian national presence and the ability to take advantage of the increasing appetite for wireless connectivity solutions," Slattery added.
"I am committed to ensuring Superloop successfully integrates the BigAir business and realises the cost savings and revenue synergies on offer."
