IBM deploys $7m Cisco network for Victorian schools

IBM has landed a contract of $7.8 million with the Department of Education and Training of Victoria to provide networking hardware to 1,500 Victorian government schools as part of a five-year contract.

A spokesperson of the department said: "IBM was the successful bidder selected on a value for money basis for the provision of Cisco network equipment and support."

The project will include a refresh of 1,702 network switches, 1,676 wireless LAN controllers and networking equipment for 15 new Public Private Partnership schools.

The contract also includes project management for the logistics and delivery of the hardware to schools, according to the spokesperson.

IBM will also be responsible for the maintenance and support services for core components of schools wi-fi network and a "standing offer arrangement for schools local purchasing of recommended products at value for money prices for a period of five years".

The 15 new schools will be delivered through the $291 million PPP. Learning Communities Victoria will be responsible for financing, designing, building and maintaining the schools for 25 years.

The schools will be built in the state's fastest-growing areas, such as Mernda, Epping North and North Geelong.
