HTC shadows Apple with September 19th event

HTC has joined a slew of smartphone makers gearing up to launch their latest wares in September.

HTC today announced a September 19 event in New York to "show what's next", in what is expected to be the launch of a new line of Windows 8 phones. The handsets are reported to be the Zenith, Accord and Rio devices.

The Zenith will be the flagship model, boasting a 4.7-inch 1280 x 720 Super LCD screen, quad-core Qualcomm processor, HSPA+ and 8MP camera. The Accord is slightly further down the pecking order, with a 4.3-inch 1280 x 720 screen, 8MP camera, 1GB of RAM and a dual-core processor.

Finally there’s the entry-level Rio, with a 4-inch 800 x 480 screen, HSPA, 5MP camera, 512MB of RAM and an 800MHz single-core processor, reported The Verge in June.

HTC will be joined by Motorola, Nokia and Apple to launch new products in September. Apple today confirmed a long-reported September 12 event for its expected iPhone 5.
