HTC has re-kindled its partnership with Optus, today announcing the launch of its Aria handset exclusively through the telecommunications provider.
The pair first partnered for the launch of the country's first Google Android device, the HTC Dream, last year.
At the launch in Sydney today, HTC local sales and marketing director Anthony Petts said Aria was the smartphone maker's seventh device to hit to market this year.
Mark Mulder, head of digital products at Optus Digital Media, said over 50 percent of Optus' post-paid customers were smartphone users.
"We've passed an important milestone," he said.
The HTC Aria featured the Android 2.1 operating system, a five megapixel camera, and a 3.2 inch HVGA display. A date was not disclosed for a possible Andoid 2.2 version or upgrade.
It also featured access to social networks such as Facebook and Twitter.
HTC Aria was to be available in mid-October from Optus stores and approved dealers.
Optus customers would be able purchase the HTC Aria for $0 upfront on the $49 Optus Cap plan for consumers or the $49 Business Complete Advantage plan for small business customers, both over 24 months.
