HP's CIO exits in major shakeup
Leo Apotheker.

Hewlett Packard’s chief information officer Randy Mott has left HP amidst a major reshuffle that was flagged in March.

Mott and HP’s chief administrative officer Pete Bocian will leave effective immediately, according to a statement by HP

HP’s Ann Livermore has been elected to HP’s board, but will remain in an interim capacity as head of the vendor's massive Enterprise Services division until a replacement is found.

Dave Donatelli, HP’s current head of Enterprise Servers, Storage, Networking and Technology Services, and HP’s head of software Bill Veghte will now report directly to HP chief executive officer Leo Apotheker. Previously the two had reported to Livermore.

Global Sales executive vice president Jan Zadak will also report to Apotheker “facilitating efforts to better leverage the full HP portfolio to deliver integrated solutions for customers and partners,” according to HP.

Telling investors in May that HP was too reliant on low-profit infrastructure outsourcing, Apotheker flagged that the vendor would seek to restructure its services division to focus on higher value work, such as application development.

“These businesses play a vital role in our continued growth and success, and as such, Dave, Bill and Jan will report directly to me and help drive the overall direction for HP,” Apotheker said.

“In our ongoing effort to accelerate our progress in executing our strategy, we will continue to make the necessary changes that streamline our operations, drive focus and agility, and position us for success.”

Apotheker announced in March that HP would embark on a major strategy overhaul that reflected changes to the computing industry brought by the cloud.

The company is expected to launch a Microsoft Azure cloud appliance at some stage in the future, however details about HP's own Amazon-like cloud offering that were leaked by a senior engineer in May, hinting HP may have other plans for its cloud platform offerings.
