Melbourne-headquartered software consultancy Revolution IT is reaping millions of dollars from government departments moving from perpetual software licences to software-as-a-service (SaaS).
The software testing outfit and HP partner has picked up a string of high-profile government customers since mid-2014, including the Business Services Unit in NSW, VicHealth and other major departments and agencies in NSW and Victoria.
The firm's government SaaS deals have reached the multi-million mark for this financial year, with three of the deals worth more than $500,000, and another private sector contract over $1 million – big deals for HP's Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) software both in Australia and globally, according to Revolution IT director Hamish Leighton.
“There’s three in the space of a couple of months that we’ve gone and signed up. Multi-year, multi-product, SaaS, managed service deals,” Leighton told CRN.
“There’s a lot of momentum building in this area. Without giving too much away, it’s certainly not the only government organisation we’re having that conversation with. It’s being picked up by a number of them, because we are able to save them a significant amount of money.”
Revolution IT did around $6 million worth of HP software business last year, earning it the title of HP Software, Asia Pacific Japan Partner of the Year. Over the past decade Revolution IT has received several partner awards from HP.
The success has resulted in Revolution IT staff being flown to Barcelona by HP to look at the IT giant’s product roadmap under a non-disclosure agreement. “You sell that sort of volume of their product, and it gets you a seat at the table to influence future development direction” Leighton said.
