'Guns and batons' patrol company becomes cybersecurity reseller

Physical security firm Southern Cross Protection (SXP) has partnered with cloud security vendor MailGuard to provide cloud, web and email security solutions.

SXP was founded in the 1920s in Melbourne as a night patrol company. The firm now has offices in every Australian state and territory and is offering more than just physical and property security with the MailGuard deal.

"Our customers' requirements have evolved and we identified a need to provide not just traditional 'guns and batons' physical security, but with the increasing proliferation of cybercrime, we need to ensure our customers are protected online as vigilantly as we protect their physical assets," SXP general manager IT risk Tim Murphy said.

Australian cloud security vendor MailGuard has deployed artificial intelligence within its cloud delivery architecture to fight attacks that require early detection and prevention.

SXP clients can add MailGuard to their current stack, complementing on-premises antivirus solutions and security measures native to mail hosts.

MailGuard chief executive and founder Craig McDonald said: "In the past, major criminal threats took the form of bank robberies and property invasions, however modern sophisticated crime networks can access the details of thousands of individuals or companies all online from an unknown remote location. Working alongside SXP, we will foster a safer online environment for businesses."

MailGuard, headquartered in South Melbourne, is present in 27 countries. The vendor appointed Hemisphere Technologies as distributor in February last year.
