Google Chrome takes record market share

Google Chrome has made a big leap in market share this month, whilst Internet Explorer 6 (IE6) seems to be finally dropping away.

Version 7.0 of Google’s browser gained 5.64 percent market share during November. Although this may not sound a lot, it was the second highest leap industry trackers NetMarketShare had seen in its history – only beaten by a 6.09 percent jump by Mozilla’s Firefox 3.6 back in February this year.

However, whilst the champagne corks might have been popping in Silicon Valley, Redmond giants Microsoft were mourning the passing of one of its classics.

Market share for the software leader’s IE6 browser dropped by a massive 14.55 percent, leaving it with just 7.62 percent overall.

But the company wouldn’t be upset for long, as it still held the top spot for its IE8 browser with 34.63 percent of market share.

Firefox 3.6 came in second place with 20.67 percent and IE7 finished off the top three with 10.12 percent, meaning Microsoft still had 52.37 percent of all browser market share.
