Developer GetData has signed Lako Pacific as a distributor for its range of Australian developed data recovery products.
Under the distribution agreement, Lako would distribute five of GetData’s 11 products -- RecoverMyFiles, Recover My Photos, The Computer Security Tool, Explorer View and Burn My Files -- to the local retail market.
GetData -- which is run by two former police forensic investigators and one physicist -- stormed into the global market early this year placing its flagship product RecoverMyFiles into 1000 US retail stores.
The developer claimed the US$69.95 RecoverMyFiles product was unique as it searches for deleted files based on their file structure rather than name or extension. It can also recover data from formatted hard drives.
The software was developed by former Federal Police forensic investigator Graham Henley, former State Police investigator John Hunter and nuclear physicist Dr Brett Hunter.
Speaking to CRN, GetData’s Hunter said GetData was approached by Lako at the recent CeBIT trade show. He said unlike other ‘broad-based’ distributors such as Ingram Micro, Lako merchandises the product to retail stores. "They’ve got their net right out there which is very important," he said. The company also deals with all the major retail outlets.
GetData also had existing distribution agreements in Germany, France and Japan. In the US, it was selling 1500 units of its boxed software per month, Hunter said.
It had more than 50,000 customers worldwide and a current revenue run rate of around $2.5 million. Hunter said he would be happy with sales of "a couple of hundred" units per month through Lako.
