Fujitsu unveils government cloud on Vault Systems' 'protected' infrastructure

Fujitsu has unveiled a cloud solution built on infrastructure certified to host "protected" level government data by partnering up with Vault Systems.

The company said its Fujitsu Protected Cloud solution would enable digital transformation for government agencies. It has three main components: infrastructure-as-a-service, backup-as-a-service and government desktop-as-a-service.

Fujitsu's IaaS offers traditional cloud services such as servers, storage and network capacity-as-a-service; the backup service is a managed cloud backup and recovery service; and government desktop-as-a-service will be the first time virtual desktop infrastructure will be delivered on a certified protected cloud in Australia, according to Fujitsu.

In addition, the platform will also offer customers enterprise productivity, data security, government and business functionality.

The Fujitsu Protected Cloud solution was built on Vault Systems' infrastructure-as-a-service platform, which was one of the first two platforms to be certified by the Australian Signals Directorate to host government data up to the "protected" level of classification.

Vault Systems is still just one of a handful of suppliers with protected-level certification, accompanied by Sliced Tech, Macquarie Telecom, Dimension Data and most recently Microsoft Azure.

Fujitsu will manage the platform itself, including service desk and support for its government customers.

Fujitsu Australia chief executive Mike Foster said the solution would address security concerns and cloud-first strategies that its government customers have.

"Meanwhile, employee-facing systems are ripe for transformation. Fujitsu’s protected cloud initiative offers a way to meet sophisticated operational demands while future-proofing government infrastructure against ever-evolving business needs and technology offerings.”

Fujitsu and Vault Systems worked together prior to the latest cloud offering. Based in Canberra, Vault Systems partners with Fujitsu for end-delivery services while providing its own security platform.
