According to Ortega, around five percent of Tegatech resellers were already selling the products in vertical markets, like the education sector, where the products are proving to be very popular.
“Currently we have a couple hundred resellers really interested in the product. But most resellers are not quite sure where the Eee PC fits in their product portfolio,” he said.
He told CRN the product has a great price, but resellers were still in the testing phase and wary of the small screen size and processors. Ortega hopes the free upgrade will see resellers move away from traditional notebooks and seriously look at the Eee PC.
“I think a free gig of RAM gives them plenty of reason to pay attention. Once resellers take the product on board there is no question the products will sell. Tegatech just wants to make sure that we have their attention and they buy the product from us,” he explained.
The RAM bundle will not affect the Retail configuration but would ship as a separate stick of RAM. It is therefore able to be used with the Eee PC or any other notebook supporting the same RAM, he said.
The ASUS Eee PC is low cost mobile PC, with a retail price starting at $499 (GST Inclusive). Ortega claims price is no reflection on quality or features, with the products specifications including an onboard camera, card reader and Solid State Disk (SSD) storage.
“The Eee PC is designed for school, work and play. In the last six months in particular Tegatech Australia has witnessed considerable growth and demand from resellers for lower cost machines,” he said. “Our announcement last month of the WiBrain at $999 and the Ruvo Avox at $1,199 sparked a real fervor through our reseller database.”
Tegatech Australia resellers have recently enjoyed major successes with the Department of Housing NSW, TAB Corp, Rio Tinto and others, claimed Ortega.
