Firewall Systems has struck a managed services deal with Trend Micro to sell the anti-virus company's new Expert-On-Guard security monitoring and reporting service to its reseller base.
The Expert-On-Guard service -- delivered via Firewall Systems to the sub-500 seat market -- is in pilot phase and due for release later this year.
The service is provided direct to customers that have more than 500 seats.
Through its operations centre in the Philippines the Trend Micro service provides 24x7 monitoring and analysis. Security experts monitor, track and analyse each customer's content security systems.
Resellers can sell their customers this monitoring, management and security policy service, said Nick Verykios, marketing director at Firewall Systems.
The distributor would assist reseller partners to work policy changes to ensure end customers are protected against virus threats.
"There [is] a lot of reseller involvement in the consulting side -- they [resellers] can take on our services.
"Because the resellers will have the option of receiving their's customer's reports from Trend Labs, they will be in a strong position to work more proactively with their customers," he said.
Firewall would also "mirror" Trend's Philippines site as volumes go up, he said. Resellers would purchase the managed services offering (MSO) from Firewall.
Firewall would bundle the MSO with the licence if they don't have Trend products. "You can't just buy the licence," Verykios said.
He added that Firewall would "be busy hitting the non-Trend reseller base as well.
Verykios claimed that while other vendors are content to offer products supported by signature file updates, Trend had established itself as a leader in policy management.
He said this was "absolutely critical if businesses are going to be able to deal with tomorrow's threats that are totally unknown today".
Trend Micro also distributes through Channelworx, Alstom IT and Ingram Micro.
