Express Data buys Simms International
Simms and Express Data have merged.

Express Data subsidiary Expressonline has bought Simms International creating a billion-dollar trans-Tasman distribution company.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The companies said the entities in the Express Data group would be the largest Australian distributor for vendors including Apple. They said that other vendors had relationships with both companies and that the deal would likely deliver competitive advantage including improved economies of scale.

Relationships with vendors would be stronger because of the deal because the two companies’ reseller channels and sales systems will drive growth, they said.

Longtime Simms chief executive officer Danny Moore will lead the new entity reporting to the board of Express Data Holdings along with Express Data chief executive officer David Gage, who was appointed to the role in May following the departure of Ross Cochrane.

Formed in 1995, Simms based in Sydney serviced more than 3000 retailers and resellers in Australia and New Zealand and sold products and services from 23 vendors through its channel.

Last week, Simms International announced a deal to distribute enterprise solutions from Chinese vendor Hauwei in Australia and New Zealand.
